Greece to Join Trump’s Peace Board Meeting as Observer

Greece has formally confirmed its participation in the Peace Board established within the framework of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire process, signaling its interest in playing a constructive diplomatic role.

Athens Confirms Observer Status in Washington Meeting

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced during a weekly press briefing that Greece will attend the 19 February meeting in Washington in an observer capacity. The session is being organized under the initiative associated with former US President Donald Trump’s peace framework discussions.

Marinakis stated that Greece will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Haris Theoharis, underscoring the country’s intent to remain actively engaged in diplomatic developments concerning Gaza.

Interest in Gaza Stabilization Force

Beyond observer participation, Athens has also expressed interest in joining a potential stabilization force aimed at supporting Gaza’s reconstruction process. However, Marinakis emphasized that Greece’s involvement in any peacekeeping or stabilization mission would be conditional.

According to the government spokesperson, participation would require a clear mandate under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803. Athens considers UN authorization a fundamental prerequisite for engagement in any such multinational framework.

Diplomatic Positioning Amid Ceasefire Efforts

Greece’s decision reflects a broader strategy to position itself as a responsible regional actor supportive of international legal frameworks and multilateral solutions. By joining the meeting as an observer, Athens aims to stay informed and contribute diplomatically while maintaining adherence to international law and UN-backed mechanisms.
