Representatives from Canada, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and the European Union issued a joint statement following their meeting in the Niagara region. The declaration strongly condemned the RSF’s attacks on civilians and aid workers, describing the ongoing war as one of the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophes.

Ceasefire and Humanitarian Access

The G7 called on both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to respect human rights, de-escalate tensions, and commit to a lasting ceasefire.
The statement also emphasized the importance of ensuring rapid and unhindered passage of humanitarian aid, both to Sudan and to Gaza, highlighting the urgent need for international cooperation to address growing humanitarian needs.

U.S. Warns Against Arming the RSF

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that all external military and financial support to the RSF must stop immediately. He stated that Washington is working with partners to prevent further weapons transfers, noting that “some countries have allowed their territories to be used for facilitating these shipments.”

Escalating Conflict and RSF Abuses

Fighting between Sudan’s army and the RSF has raged since April 15, 2023, with devastating consequences for civilians.
The city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, is now largely under RSF control. Tens of thousands have fled the area amid documented reports of torture and executions carried out by RSF fighters, with disturbing evidence circulating on social media.
