According to Sudanese army statements, its forces successfully countered RSF advances in eastern and northern El Fasher, destroying vehicles and downing drones used by the RSF. The army described the clashes as part of a broader RSF campaign to seize control of the city, which remains the last major urban center in Darfur not under RSF control. Military sources claimed RSF fighters suffered significant casualties and were forced to retreat from several positions around the city’s perimeter.
El Fasher has been under siege-like conditions for months, with both sides exchanging artillery and drone strikes. Despite ongoing mediation efforts, no ceasefire has been established, and control over the city remains contested.
As fighting intensifies, the United Nations warned of a growing cholera threat in El Fasher, citing collapsing sanitation systems, acute water shortages, and disrupted healthcare access. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) called for immediate intervention to restore basic services and prevent a full-scale outbreak.
El Fasher’s hospitals are struggling to operate amid fuel shortages and infrastructure damage, while displaced civilians face deteriorating living conditions. UN agencies emphasized that without urgent aid access, the humanitarian situation could worsen rapidly, especially with the rainy season increasing the risk of waterborne disease.
