Speaking in Istanbul at the TRT World Forum 2025 on October 31, Erdogan described the violence in North Darfur as a “test of humanity.” He appealed for swift and concrete steps by the international community to end the atrocities.
“we cannot remain silent in the face of injustice”
Addressing the audience in Istanbul with a map of Sudan behind him, Erdogan called for moral clarity on the atrocities in El-Fasher. “We cannot remain silent in the face of injustice. Everyone with a conscience must raise their voice against oppression,” he said, calling the images from Sudan “a test for humanity.”
Call for Immediate Protection
He condemned attacks on civilians in North Darfur and demanded urgent security guarantees. “No one with a conscience can accept the massacres against innocent civilians in El-Fasher. These attacks must stop immediately, and civilian safety must be ensured,” he said.
Türkiye’s Stance and Readiness to Assist
Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for the Sudanese people and readiness to help victims. “Türkiye strongly condemns the brutality in El-Fasher and stands ready to protect the victims,” he said, underlining Ankara’s humanitarian commitment.
Role of the Press
Referring to journalists’ footage from the region, he stressed the importance of independent reporting. “The media’s duty to bring out the truth is of vital importance,” he said, highlighting its role in accountability and awareness.
Demand for Concrete Global Action
Erdogan escalated his appeal into a direct call for intervention and responsibility. “The massacre in El-Fasher cannot be ignored. Concrete and urgent steps must be taken. It is no longer time to watch—it is time to act and support humanity,” he said, closing with a plea: “Let no more brotherly blood be shed. Let children, women, and civilians live. This is the common demand of humanity.”
