According to the embassy’s statement on social media, the electricity transfer will begin on August 2 and continue for a full year, supporting daily needs across multiple Syrian cities. The project’s route passes through Azerbaijan and Türkiye before entering Syria. Syrian Minister of Energy, Mohammad Al-Bashir, confirmed that the arrival of Azerbaijani gas would enhance electricity stability throughout the country.

The supplied power will be received at Aleppo’s station and distributed across residential, industrial, and service sectors. The embassy stated that the initiative will increase electricity access to five hours daily, marking a 40% improvement in supply for more than 5 million subscribers. The project is also expected to benefit factories and commercial centers, bolstering economic activity.

Qatar’s Investment In Syrian Power Sector Reaches $760 Million

The first phase of the electricity support initiative had a 400 MW capacity and was previously credited with stabilizing the power grid and increasing daily operational hours in key areas from 16 to 24. The launch of the second phase effectively doubles the energy capacity and reaffirms Qatar’s ongoing support for Syria’s energy needs.

The embassy emphasized that with this new phase, Qatar’s cumulative investment in Syria’s power sector has surpassed $760 million. This effort is framed as part of Doha’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people and strengthening essential infrastructure in the country.

Both Syrian and Turkish energy ministries have expressed optimism about the new phase, with Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar noting that gas deliveries to Syria would commence on the same date, aligning with the electricity launch schedule.
