The New York Times reported, citing American sources, that the US military is preparing for a possible strike on Iran. It could come as early as Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, after the midterms.
Any strike depends on President Donald Trump’s approval, the Times said. Trump has not announced a decision.
What the Report Says
The Times reported the preparations on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the day of the midterms.
The Times reported on Oct. 21 that US and Israeli planners had developed plans for new strikes after the vote, it said. Targets would likely include energy, nuclear and missile sites.
Midterms, Qeshm and Trump’s Pledge
Trump said on Oct. 8 that the US would not attack Iran before the midterms, the Times reported. On Monday, US forces carried out limited “defensive” strikes on Qeshm Island, AP reported.
Trump has said “there’s a very good chance we make a deal.” The Hill reported that he is weighing strikes as early as this week while mediators push for an agreement.
Pressure Points
Israel told Washington that Iran is weighing chemical weapons use, the Times reported earlier today. Some US officials see this as part of Israeli pressure to resume major combat.
Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei said Washington’s reply to Tehran’s demands was not convincing.
