The assault caused extensive destruction, with more than 100 structures—ranging from residential buildings to schools, kindergartens, and healthcare facilities—either damaged or destroyed. A section of a nine-story apartment building collapsed entirely, trapping residents under the rubble. Rescue efforts are ongoing.

Among the dead was a six-year-old boy. The youngest injured was a five-month-old infant. A resident, Yana Zhabborova, described the destruction of her home: “There is nothing left—just stress and shock.”

In addition to Kyiv, other regions such as Dnipro, Poltava, Sumy, and Mykolaiv were also targeted, though the capital sustained the most damage.

Air Assault Scale And Ukrainian Response

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 309 Shahed and decoy drones along with eight Iskander-K cruise missiles. While 288 drones and three missiles were intercepted, five missiles and 21 drones struck their targets.

Russian forces also hit a residential building in Kramatorsk, where one person was killed and 11 were wounded. In retaliation, Ukrainian drones reportedly caused damage at an industrial site in Russia’s Penza region and disrupted rail lines in Volgograd.

Political Fallout And Ultimatum From Washington

The attack came amid stalled diplomatic efforts. Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a tightened deadline, stating that if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire by August 8, the U.S. will impose new sanctions and tariffs. His envoy, John Kelley, reiterated at the UN Security Council that “it is time to make a deal.”

Zelensky urged allies to enforce commitments and push Russia toward genuine negotiations. “Forcing Moscow to make peace—compelling them to come to a real negotiating table—these tools are in the hands of our partners,” he said.

Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have taken full control of Chasiv Yar, a strategic city in Donetsk, though Ukrainian officials contested this. The town remains heavily contested.
