The U.S. said Wednesday it had disrupted a Chinese hacking operation that broke into some of the country's most sensitive government institutions, including the Justice Department, NASA, the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Senate.

The Justice Department said authorities had seized domains linked to two hacking platforms used in the campaign, marking a U.S. move against infrastructure it attributed to the operation.

Sensitive Agencies Breached

The hacking activity reached multiple parts of the U.S. government, according to Washington.

Alongside the Justice Department, NASA, the Federal Reserve and the Senate, U.S. authorities said other sensitive government agencies were also compromised.

The extent of the breaches places federal institutions at the center of the campaign described by U.S. officials.

Platforms Targeted

The Justice Department identified two platforms, “QScan” and “QTRouter,” as infrastructure used in the operation.

It said domains associated with both platforms had been seized as part of the disruption effort.

The department described the platforms as components of the broader hacking campaign attributed to Chinese actors.

Beijing Has Rejected Similar Claims

The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Beijing routinely denies responsibility for hacking activity.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more updates.
