The United States Special Presidential Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, arrived in Kyiv on Monday for an official visit, Ukrainian Presidential Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak confirmed. The visit signals Washington’s continued engagement with Ukraine as the war with Russia drags on and Kyiv faces mounting pressure from Russian aerial and missile attacks.
Yermak said Kellogg’s meetings would cover key topics including security cooperation, military aid, sanctions on Russia, and deepening bilateral ties between Washington and Kyiv. “Russia does not want to cease fire. ‘Peace through strength’ is a principle of U.S. President Donald Trump, and we support this approach,” Yermak wrote on Telegram.
Trump Set to Announce New Ukraine Package
The visit precedes an expected announcement from President Donald Trump later today concerning Russia, amid reports that his administration will unveil a new weapons package for Ukraine. Trump has also recently expressed growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to advance peace negotiations.
Kellogg’s trip highlights the Biden administration’s ongoing efforts to keep Ukraine well-armed while pursuing diplomatic avenues, aligning with Trump’s doctrine of military strength as leverage in negotiations.
