The US Navy's USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier strike group has arrived in Singapore ahead of an expected deployment to the Middle East, where its arrival could bring three American aircraft carriers into the region simultaneously.
The nuclear-powered Nimitz-class carrier entered Singapore on November 6 for a port visit before its anticipated transit through the Strait of Malacca and across the Indian Ocean.
The strike group includes the guided-missile cruiser USS Chosin and the destroyers USS Paul Hamilton and USS Decatur, alongside Carrier Air Wing 11.
According to USNI News, the Theodore Roosevelt is expected to relieve the USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group, which has been operating in the Middle East since August.
The USS George H.W. Bush is also deployed to the region, raising the possibility of a temporary three-carrier American naval presence if the deployments overlap.
The Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego in late September before conducting operations in the Western Pacific, including participation in the multinational Keen Sword 27 exercise.
On November 4, the carrier conducted a replenishment-at-sea operation with the Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Stalwart in the South China Sea.
The deployment comes amid heightened US-Iran tensions and sustained American naval operations in the Middle East.
The carrier strike group's passage through the Strait of Malacca would mark another major movement of US naval forces from the Indo-Pacific toward the Middle East.
However, the US Navy has not publicly confirmed a precise arrival date in the region or how long any overlapping carrier deployment would last.
