US Air Force Begins Withdrawing Tankers From Ben Gurion Airport

The U.S. Air Force has begun evacuating a portion of its aerial refueling aircraft stationed at Ben Gurion Airport, following pressure from civilian transport officials to preserve commercial flight operations.

According to a Thursday report by N12, the military departure coincides with broad expectations of an impending diplomatic agreement alongside shifting regional security developments.

Civilian Operational Pressure

Transportation Minister Miri Regev urged defense authorities to clear out the military refueling assets to prevent severe disruption at the airport during its busiest operational window.

Airport authorities project more than 2.6 million passengers will pass through the facility throughout August, marking one of the heaviest traffic flows recorded since October 7.

Peak Travel Surge

Daily passenger volume at Ben Gurion is expected to average roughly 100,000 travelers, with operational pressure concentrated on Thursdays and Monday, August 17.

The departure of the refueling fleet is designed to free up crucial runway and tarmac capacity as commercial flight schedules reach peak volume.
