Speaking ahead of the high-stakes Trump-Putin summit in Anchorage, Healey said the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” could be on the ground “from day one” to help secure and sustain peace.
A “Day One” Deployment Plan
Healey, attending a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s World War II surrender, told the BBC that British forces were ready to move without delay in the event of a truce. While details of the mission remain unconfirmed, he emphasized readiness and rapid action: “They are ready to go, they’re ready to act from day one.”

Pressed on whether UK troops could be drawn into direct conflict if fighting resumed, Healey dismissed such scenarios as “hypotheticals,” but made clear that “any British forces have the right to defend themselves if attacked.”
The statement comes as U.S. President Donald Trump prepares for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, aimed at brokering a ceasefire in Ukraine’s 3½-year war. The UK’s commitment signals an intent to play a leading role in enforcing and stabilizing any peace deal that might emerge from the summit.
