Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson on Thursday publicly disavowed his previous hostile statements regarding Islam and issued a sharp critique of Donald Trump’s foreign policy record.
Carlson characterized his own past rhetoric as hysterical and explicitly retracted his claims that Muslims belonged to a suicide cult.
The remarks signal a significant ideological shift for the prominent media figure.
“I Believed It, But It’s Not True”
Carlson stated that he previously believed and propagated the idea that Islam was the primary threat to the West.
He admitted to frequently claiming on television that Muslims wanted to kill Americans and were part of a lunatic cult.
He now rejects these statements entirely.
“Nothing about that is true, but I believed it,” Carlson said. He described his former mindset as hysterical and acknowledged the falsehood of his previous assertions.
Trump and Iran Strategy
Shifting his focus to former President Donald Trump, Carlson criticized the decision-making process behind the assassination of the Iranian Ayatollah.
He stated that Trump convinced himself the targeted killing would precipitate the collapse of the Iranian state.
According to Carlson, U.S. intelligence agencies warned Trump this assessment was false, but Israeli officials encouraged the strike.
When the Iranian government did not collapse, Trump allegedly realized he was trapped.
Carlson claimed Trump recognized the severe risks to the American and global economies and subsequently blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“This is not the Israel I Know”
Carlson offered a stark condemnation of current Israeli government actions, arguing they contradict the foundational principles of Western civilization.
He accused Israel of abandoning individual justice in favor of an evil standard of blood guilt.
He rejected the premise that defending Western civilization requires defending Israel.
Instead, Carlson asserted that his opposition to Israeli policies stems directly from his commitment to Western values.
He added that the modern state of Israel bears no resemblance to the country he first visited decades ago.
The End of MAGA
Addressing broader U.S. military strategy, Carlson criticized excessive Pentagon spending and described the construction of new aircraft carriers as insane.
He stressed that despite a well-funded military, there are distinct limits to what armed force can achieve globally.
Carlson also dismissed the future of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) political faction.
He declared the movement is definitely over, citing current conflicts as the catalyst for its end.
He noted that the operational definition of MAGA was never clear, as Trump simply defined it however he chose.
Finally, Carlson dismissed any speculation regarding his own political ambitions. He explicitly ruled out a presidential run, stating he is not a natural politician.
