President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the United States is nearing a breakthrough in nuclear talks with Iran and confirmed he personally warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against interfering with the process.

Trump told reporters his administration is “very close to a solution” on Iran’s nuclear program, citing progress through indirect negotiations moderated by Oman and led by envoy Steve Witkoff.

“Right now, I think they want to make a deal. And if we can make a deal, I’d save a lot of lives,”

U.S. President Donald Trump

He acknowledged he told Netanyahu during a recent call that any disruption would be “inappropriate,” adding, “It’s not a warning – I said I don’t think it’s appropriate.”

Enrichment and Oversight

The most contentious issue remains uranium enrichment. While the U.S. initially demanded a full halt to enrichment, Trump hinted at a possible compromise allowing limited enrichment under international inspection.

“We can go in with inspectors... We can blow up a lab, but nobody’s going to be in the lab,”

Iran has insisted on its right to civilian nuclear energy but said it is open to not enriching uranium to weapons-grade levels.

Consortium Proposal, Missile Program Excluded

The emerging framework may involve a multinational consortium—including UN agencies and regional countries—producing enriched uranium for Iran’s civilian use. The U.S. might even invest in Iran’s nuclear energy infrastructure under the new deal.

Iran’s ballistic missile program, however, is not part of the current negotiations—something that has drawn criticism from some U.S. officials.
