President Donald Trump stated on Friday that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be reached as early as next week, expressing cautious optimism after Hamas issued a constructive response to the U.S.-backed truce proposal.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said Hamas’s response to the ceasefire framework had been “positive in spirit” and added, “There could be a deal by next week.” However, he clarified that he had not yet been briefed on the latest developments in the negotiations.
nts follow intense diplomacy led by Washington, Qatar, and Egypt aimed at ending nearly two years of war in Gaza. The truce proposal includes a 60-day cessation of hostilities, hostage and prisoner exchanges, and phased Israeli withdrawals.
While Hamas has indicated its willingness to negotiate, including proposed amendments, Israel has yet to issue an official response. The Israeli cabinet is scheduled to meet to discuss the matter, with reports suggesting that a delegation could soon travel to meet with mediators.
Trump’s administration has pressed both sides to finalize an agreement ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington. The deal is seen as crucial for stabilizing the region following a recent Israel-Iran conflict and a surge in civilian casualties in Gaza.
The White House remains tight-lipped about details but hopes the diplomatic momentum will hold through the weekend.
