Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Nov. 5, Trump said a settlement was coming. “There’s going to be an agreement,” he said. “It’s going to be a big agreement, and it’s going to involve more than Ukraine.”
He then widened the frame further. “I could even say it might involve all of Europe,” Trump said. He called it “a big, beautiful agreement” and added that “everyone’s going to be thrilled.”
No Details on Terms or Timing
Trump did not say who would sign the deal or when. He gave no terms on territory, security guarantees or sanctions. The White House has not released any framework matching his description.
Earlier in the same session, he hinted at more announcements. “You’ll be seeing a lot of things over the next week, two weeks,” he said.
Trump Pressed on Civilian Deaths
A reporter asked whether he raised Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians with Putin. “I always bring it up,” Trump replied. He added that he also raises it “the other way, because the other way they kill too.”
He also contrasted the war with the Iran conflict. Russia and Ukraine, he said, were losing about 25,000 people a month.
Kyiv and Europe Under Pressure
The remarks came hours after Zelensky said he had told U.S. officials a winter ceasefire with Russia was possible. Kyiv is also facing major blackouts after repeated Russian strikes on the power grid.
European capitals are still funding Kyiv’s war effort. Germany is seeking an extra €100 million for Ukrainian infrastructure. Italy plans to extend its military aid framework into 2027.
