During a closed-door meeting in the Oval Office, Trump urged financial backers to rally behind the vice president to secure the Republican Party's future leadership.

“At the end of the day, we need to elect JD,” Trump told attendees, according to individuals familiar with the discussion, as reported by The Washington Post.

Despite his private remarks, Trump continues to avoid formal public backing for Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio, keeping the contest for his political blessing open.

White House aides indicate the president frequently queries staff regarding the relative standing of both figures, maintaining an atmosphere of internal competition.

Advisers note that withholding a public endorsement serves to preserve executive authority and prevent Trump from prematurely becoming a lame-duck leader.
