Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social on Friday afternoon, days after Republicans lost control of Congress in the midterm elections, the Associated Press reported.
“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026,” Trump wrote.
“Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!” he added. He did not give a reason for the change.
Wiles Says Her Commitment Stays
Wiles said on X that Friday would be her last day as chief of staff, NBC News reported. “Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime,” she wrote. “While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.”
The Washington Post described Wiles as having been pushed out. In mid-October, Trump said there was “zero chance” he was considering replacing her, after Politico and the Post reported that she might step down after the election. Trump did not detail what her new political role will involve.
Who Is Stephen Miller
Miller has served as White House deputy chief of staff for policy and as homeland security adviser. He is the main architect of the administration’s hard-line immigration and deportation policies.
In Trump’s first term, he served as a senior adviser and director of speechwriting. Before that, he spent years on Capitol Hill as an aide to Republican lawmakers.
The shake-up comes as Democrats prepare to take control of Congress and eye investigations into the administration. Other senior officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, also face scrutiny after the midterms.
