U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly grown weary of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s maneuvers to delay hostage negotiations, as hopes for a partial release deal rise and pressure on Israel's war conduct intensifies.
Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff presented a renewed proposal offering a partial release: ten live hostages and 38 bodies in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire. The plan would pave the way for final talks on a broader hostage return and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Despite previous hesitations, Hamas responded quickly and positively, seeking U.S. guarantees to avoid Israel backtracking after initial releases. Trump is reportedly determined to secure progress before hostilities resume.
Netanyahu Accused of Deflection and Delay
Haaretz reports that Netanyahu’s inner circle is focusing on diversions to deflect from political and military failures. The Prime Minister’s resistance to a comprehensive deal is seen as a strategy to delay elections and avoid accountability.
Military Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and his successor Eyal Zamir reportedly oppose Netanyahu’s approach, stressing that the army should prioritize bringing hostages home. U.S. officials have warned Netanyahu not to launch unilateral strikes on Iran during parallel nuclear negotiations.
Rising tensions are evident between military leadership and political figures like Defense Minister Israel Katz. Disputes over personnel decisions, humanitarian aid distribution, and war objectives have fractured the Israeli security apparatus. Military sources admit current operations in Gaza are slow-moving and increasingly aimed at systematic destruction rather than tactical gains.
Right-wing influence within the army’s operational planning has also grown, reflecting ideological divides and undermining institutional coherence.
