U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed growing frustration over public disclosures detailing severe depletion in American ammunition reserves, concerned that the leaks project geopolitical vulnerability at a critical moment in negotiations with Iran.

During a high-level Cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump directly confronted senior officials regarding news coverage highlighting diminished missile inventories, according to CNN.

While aware of supply limitations for months, the president remains furious that operational shortfalls were made public as Washington attempts to leverage military threats against Tehran.

Leaks Trigger Federal Crackdown

Writing speaking to media, Trump insisted that "the U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types," while claiming on social media that domestic defense contractors were building new production facilities at historic rates.

However, acknowledging the underlying accuracy of the reported deficits, the administration has directed the Department of Justice to track down internal leakers accused of releasing classified inventory metrics.

Officials confirmed the investigation seeks long-term prison sentences for those responsible.

White House aides emphasized that presidential anger remains focused on intelligence leaks rather than Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as prior reporting suggested.

Trump publicly noted he was "extremely happy with the job that Pete Hegseth is doing."

Severe Deficits in Air Defense Systems

The administration's frustration follows disclosures showing significant depletion in key interceptor inventories.

The U.S. military has used nearly 80 percent of its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors and roughly half of its Patriot missile stockpile since the outbreak of hostilities.

Pre-war estimates placed American inventory at approximately 2,200 modernized Patriot interceptors and 452 THAAD missiles.

The swift expenditure of these assets has rattled both Pentagon planners and regional partners across the Gulf.

Regional Repercussions and Strategy Shifts

Gulf nations dependent on American military systems have expressed alarm that depleted interceptor stockpiles could leave critical infrastructure exposed to Iranian retaliatory strikes.

Tehran has warned that renewed U.S. offensives would prompt direct strikes against regional energy and desalination facilities.

The acute shortage of key precision munitions has already constrained American strategic options. Senior military leadership cited dwindling stockpiles when advising Trump to abort planned military strikes against Iran last weekend.

Long-term Industrial Bottlenecks

Before the conflict, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine warned that sustained operations would strain inventories already drawn down by military assistance to Kyiv and Tel Aviv.

Trump has placed blame on the prior administration, stating, "We have a lot. I’d like to have more, to be honest, but so much was given to Ukraine by Biden."

To address structural manufacturing bottlenecks, the administration invoked the Defense Production Act and convened emergency summits with major defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin.

However, industrial adjustments are expected to take years, offering no immediate relief to current operational constraints.
