'That sounds like fake news to me'
U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Response Adam Boehler called reports that President Trump threatened to abandon Israel unless the war in Gaza ended “fake news”.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Boehler dismissed a Washington Post article alleging Trump pressured Israel to end the war or risk losing U.S. backing. “That sounds like fake news to me,” he said, adding, “Trump’s support for Israel is ironclad.” U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also rejected the claim, calling the reporting “nonsense” and urging people to “listen to what the president says.”
Boehler said efforts to secure the release of 58 hostages still held by Hamas are progressing. “I think we’re closer than we ever were,” he stated, crediting ongoing Israeli military operations and U.S. diplomacy. He recounted the emotional release of American-Israeli Edan Alexander as a high point in the process.
Boehler also addressed humanitarian concerns in Gaza, noting a new U.S.-backed aid mechanism being tested. “Perhaps there needs to be a replacement for UNRWA,” he said, citing longstanding issues with the U.N. agency and expressing support if the new system delivers food to those in need.
