Thailand’s Princess Chulabhorn has urged the army to construct a “permanent wall” along the Thai–Cambodian border and provide bunkers for both soldiers and local residents, offering to help fund the project through her Hathai Thip foundation. Her remarks came after deadly fighting along the frontier earlier this year, which left dozens dead and prompted international concern.
Speaking during a meeting with army officials, Princess Chulabhorn said, “We want to make it known to the public that we’re actively working.” She called on the military to ensure safety for communities near the frontier and said her foundation would contribute funds for defense infrastructure.
The appeal came weeks after a ceasefire between Thai and Cambodian forces halted border clashes that had erupted in July. While calm has largely returned, tensions remain high along the 800-kilometer frontier, with both sides reinforcing positions near disputed zones.
Princess Chulabhorn’s Hathai Thip fund, previously used for health and community projects, is now being directed toward supporting defense efforts. Her comments mark one of the rare occasions in which a member of Thailand’s royal family has publicly addressed border security issues.
