Syrian Government Soldier Killed in Clashes with SDF
Fighting between Syrian government forces and the SDF terrorist group in Aleppo province has killed one government soldier, according to state media.

A Syrian government soldier was killed on Tuesday in clashes with the US-backed SDF terrorist group in northwestern Aleppo province, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported. The fighting marks the latest breakdown in relations between Damascus and the SDF, casting doubt on a March agreement meant to integrate the Kurdish-led force into the national military.
Disputed Integration Deal
The accord, signed in March 2025, was intended to unify the country’s armed factions under the interim government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa. However, it left unresolved whether SDF fighters would join individually — as the government insists — or as a bloc, as the SDF demands. The Syrian Defence Ministry accused the SDF of targeting government positions in violation of the agreement and warned that continued attacks would have “new consequences.”
Tensions have derailed diplomacy: last week, Damascus announced it would not participate in scheduled Paris talks with SDF representatives. Nevertheless, Syrian Foreign Minister and a senior Kurdish administration official reportedly met Tuesday in Damascus for direct discussions.
Regional Strains and Concurrent Unrest
The SDF, Washington’s main partner in Syria during the campaign to defeat ISIL in 2019, has accused government-aligned forces of launching more than 22 attacks in northeastern Syria over the weekend. The group warned that persistent assaults threaten “mutual trust” and existing understandings.
The flare-up in Aleppo comes as Syria grapples with sectarian violence in Suwayda province, where fighting between Bedouin and Druze factions has prompted Israeli strikes on Syrian troops and even Damascus itself, under the pretext of protecting Druze communities.
