Sweden’s Government Offices have blocked staff from accessing the browser versions of ChatGPT and Claude on work computers, citing concerns about information security and the use of unapproved AI services.
The restriction took effect on Oct. 26 and applies to computers used by the administrative offices supporting the prime minister and government ministries, Swedish broadcaster SVT reported.
Security Concerns
Mikael Wettercrantz, the Government Offices’ director of digitalization, warned that using AI services without an agreement could have consequences for information security, according to Sveriges Radio.
Officials had identified problems involving sensitive information entered into open AI services and the handling of responses, the broadcaster reported.
Approved Alternatives
The Government Offices told SVT that its employees have access to Microsoft Copilot, whose security settings were strengthened after a review.
The office also said ChatGPT and Claude language models remain available through Intric, a platform used by government staff.
The Swedish Tax Agency and the National Board of Institutional Care have already introduced similar restrictions, while the Swedish Enforcement Authority is considering the issue, SVT reported.
