Sudan Calls UAE a 'Country of Evil,' Worsening the Conflict

Sudan’s representative at the UN General Assembly called the United Arab Emirates a “country of evil,” accusing it of worsening the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Speaking in New York, the representative placed the UAE at the forefront of countries Sudan says are aggravating the conflict.

"Their claim to be neutral and innocent will not aid in covering their crimes and atrocities, where they are in a bloodied partnership with the RSF," he said.

'An International Campaign Against SAF'

Sudan's UN representative called on the UAE to focus more on its domestic politics instead of becoming "a familial governing regime headed by military officials."

"The UAE is holding an international campaign to target the Sudanese Armed Forces, which are currently working against the mercenaries’ attacks," he concluded.

Sudanese officials have repeatedly accused the UAE of supplying the RSF with weapons, financing and logistical assistance.

They argue that ending such support is essential to stopping the fighting.

In submissions and speeches to UN bodies, Sudan has pointed to flights from Abu Dhabi to eastern Chad, captured equipment and alleged networks of foreign fighters as evidence for its claims.

It has also cited gold flows through Dubai as a source of RSF financing.

The accusations form part of Sudan’s effort to frame the war as foreign aggression carried out through the RSF.

A Wider War

Fighting began in April 2023 between the RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

The conflict has caused mass displacement, famine risks, and atrocities against civilians.

Investigators have documented numerous abuses, with RSF campaigns in Darfur drawing particular scrutiny.
