Sudanese government forces, backed by the Joint Force, have taken control of the strategic Wadi al-Atrun area in the border triangle between Sudan, Libya, and Chad, the Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, announced on Sunday. The area, located within the Al-Wahat administrative unit, is a critical link for regional military logistics, connecting the Northern State, North Darfur State, and the broader desert regions.

Major Blow to RSF Supply Lines

Minawi, who also leads the Joint Force, hailed the operation as a significant victory against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which had seized key positions in the region last March, including the Al-Maliha locality.

"Our heroes in the Armed Forces and the Joint Forces are achieving great victories by liberating the strategic Al-Atrun area from the grip of the terrorist Rapid Support militia,"

He promised that full control over the Darfur region is within reach.

Joint Force spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Mustafa confirmed that the operation resulted in significant RSF casualties and equipment losses. He emphasized that the recapture of Al-Atrun marks a crucial step toward restoring security and stability in the Darfur region, reflecting the forces’ commitment to protecting civilians and securing Sudanese territory.

Strategic Importance of Al-Atrun

Al-Atrun’s strategic location at the intersection of Sudan, Libya, and Chad makes it a critical supply and smuggling route. The area has long been contested due to its importance for both military logistics and cross-border trade, particularly for armed groups operating in the vast desert regions of North Darfur.
