Steve Bannon predicts Republicans will erupt in a “civil war” after the Nov. 3 midterm elections, the Financial Times reports. The paper published its interview with the former White House chief strategist on Oct. 31. The interview is behind a paywall, so Clash Report could not read the full text.

What the Financial Times Reports

The interview is by Alex Rogers, who covers money and power in Washington for the FT. Its headline says Republicans will erupt in a “civil war” once the votes are counted. Its standfirst says Bannon predicts “monster” legislative battles before the new Congress is sworn in.

Beyond that headline and summary, Clash Report could not verify what Bannon said. That includes which factions he expects to clash and who he thinks will lead each side.

Why Republicans Face Midterm Pressure

Republicans are likely to lose the House next week, FT columnist Edward Luce wrote on Oct. 31. He sees a “reasonable chance” the Senate flips too. Clash Report has reported on Trump's falling approval ratings.

Luce's essay on Trump's final two years also quotes Bannon. He says Trump's small-donor base has “evaporated,” and MAGA “hates the White House ballroom and jets from the Gulf.” The essay also quotes him saying, “If we win, we will win ugly.”

Bannon's Earlier Warnings

Bannon has used the “civil war” label before. On his War Room show on Aug. 26, he described a coming fight over economic direction, a third-party transcript shows. He cast it as populist nationalists against the neoliberal, Reagan-Thatcher wing of the party.

On Oct. 22, he described an ongoing “civil war” between the MAGA grassroots and an entrenched establishment. He named Georgia and Texas as examples, another transcript shows. He pointed to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp as part of that establishment.

He also warned about a Democratic House. In a CBS News interview with Ted Koppel, taped Sept. 29, he predicted “subpoenas flying every day.” He said he expects impeachments of Pete Hegseth and Bobby Kennedy.

Clash Report reported that Hegseth already faces pressure from both parties over the Iran war after the midterms. “If we lose the House, it's going to turn the White House into Fort Apache,” Bannon said on his podcast, CBS reports. He told Koppel Republicans “can't afford to lose.”

What Remains Unconfirmed

The “civil war” prediction and the “monster” battles line rest on the FT's headline and standfirst. Clash Report found no direct quotes from the interview itself.

The available excerpts do not say whether Bannon means a MAGA-establishment split, a 2028 fight or something else. Clash Report found no public response from party leaders at the time of writing.
