UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump during Trump’s private visit to Scotland later this month, Downing Street confirmed. The meeting will occur informally at Trump’s invitation, as the U.S. President’s trip is not considered an official state visit but rather a private stop tied to his golf businesses.

The UK government clarified that the meeting will not involve formal bilateral talks or agreements. “Given he is visiting in a private capacity, there will not be a formal bilateral, but the prime minister is pleased to take up the president's invite to meet during his stay,” Starmer’s office said.

Trump’s travel plans to Scotland, where he owns two golf resorts, have yet to be officially confirmed by the White House. Nonetheless, the planned meeting underscores the ongoing engagement between London and Washington despite the informal nature of the visit.

The informal meeting comes as both leaders navigate complex domestic and international challenges, including ongoing trade tensions, defense cooperation, and differing approaches to Ukraine and China. Although this encounter is private, it reflects continued efforts to maintain communication at the highest levels between the U.S. and UK.

The meeting also follows recent high-profile interactions between the two leaders in Washington earlier this year, highlighting the continued significance of the “special relationship” despite changing political dynamics in both countries.
