The incident occurred during the afternoon hours, causing panic among shoppers and bringing city traffic to a standstill as police swiftly moved in to secure the area.

Local law enforcement confirmed that one male suspect was arrested at the scene. While the number of victims and the severity of their injuries have not yet been publicly detailed, police stated that all victims received immediate first aid at the site.

Police Secure Scene, Investigate Suspect’s Motive

“The situation no longer poses a danger to outsiders,” a police spokesperson told the press. Officers cordoned off the shopping centre and began interviewing witnesses while continuing their investigation into the events that led to the attack.

Public broadcaster YLE reported that traffic around Tampere’s city centre was heavily disrupted following the incident. Aamulehti, a local newspaper, identified the detained individual as a man, though authorities have not released further identifying information.

At this stage, Finnish police have not provided any insight into whether the attack was random, targeted, or ideologically motivated. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and forensic evidence from the scene while the suspect remains in custody for questioning.
