Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced the killing of at least 11 al-Shabaab fighters during a series of joint operations across central Somalia. Conducted over three days with international support, the raids struck militant positions in Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, and Galgaduud regions. According to NISA, the operations disrupted al-Shabaab’s planning capabilities, eliminated senior figures, and destroyed vehicles and equipment intended for future attacks.
In the Hiiraan region, NISA forces targeted a compound in Tardo where senior al-Shabaab leaders had gathered for a meeting, killing seven fighters and demolishing the site. In Middle Shabelle’s Daarunimca area, security forces intercepted an imminent attack on Civil Defense Forces, killing four militants, including veteran commander Abdullahi Ganeey, active in the group since 2009. Meanwhile, in Nooleeye, Galgaduud, security personnel destroyed a vehicle transporting military equipment meant for assaults on El-Dher district.
NISA emphasized that operations will continue in partnership with international allies to “ensure internal security and stability” across Somalia. The agency highlighted that al-Shabaab remains a persistent threat, but sustained joint efforts are degrading the group’s operational capacity. The announcement underlines Somalia’s intensified campaign against the group, which continues to stage deadly attacks despite recent military setbacks.
