Kenya’s Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula confirmed that the victims included doctors, nurses, and the pilot aboard the aircraft, as well as civilians who were at the crash site. AMREF Flying Doctors stated that four crew members and staff were on board at the time. Two others were seriously injured in the accident and are receiving hospital treatment.

AMREF CEO Stephen Gitau said in a statement that the charity is cooperating fully with authorities and emergency responders to establish the cause of the crash. “We are committed to supporting the families affected and ensuring that all facts surrounding this incident are clarified,” he added.

Eyewitnesses Describe Flash And Fire

Local resident Patricia Kombo described seeing a red flash and hearing a loud explosion as she traveled nearby in a taxi. “Before I could take my phone to record, the flash was gone and smoke was billowing,” she told the BBC. “We then heard people screaming and running... we later discovered it was a plane crash and saw the sunken hole the crash had created.”

The Kenya Defence Forces and National Police Service are conducting search and recovery operations at the site, which has drawn large crowds. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the aircraft lost both radar and radio contact before impact.

In a separate incident on the same day, a Kenya Pipeline Company staff bus collided with a train near Naivasha, killing four more people and injuring several others, according to the Red Cross.
