A wave of Russian missile and drone attacks overnight has left at least five people dead and scores injured in Kyiv and surrounding regions, Ukrainian officials said Monday, as blazes engulfed apartment buildings and infrastructure across the capital.

Strikes Target Civilian Infrastructure

The deadliest impacts were in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, where an entire entrance of a residential high-rise was destroyed. "There are still people under the rubble," said Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. In total, six districts in the capital sustained damage, with at least 10 people wounded.

Kyiv’s military administration head Timur Tkachenko accused Russia of deliberately striking populated areas, including exits from bomb shelters. “The Russians' style is unchanged—to hit where there may be people,” he said.

Metro Shelter Damaged, Fires Reported

An entrance to a metro station in the Sviatoshynskyi district—frequently used as a civilian bomb shelter—was hit, along with an adjacent bus stop. Emergency services rescued people from multiple burning structures, including a pregnant woman.

In the wider Kyiv region, a 68-year-old woman was killed and at least eight others injured, according to regional governor Mykola Kalashnik.

Kyiv Reels from Back-to-Back Attacks

This latest barrage follows last week’s deadly Russian assault on Kyiv, in which 28 people were killed and over 150 wounded. Nearly 30 sites were struck in that multi-wave offensive, marking one of the most lethal attacks on the capital since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.

Ukraine’s government continues to emphasize that Russia is targeting civilian populations, while Russia denies intentionally attacking non-military sites.
