Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is analyzing Trump’s remarks but described the American ultimatum as “very dangerous.” He cautioned that threats of punitive sanctions could backfire. “Kyiv may interpret this as an invitation to continue the war, not a sign for peace,” he said.
Meanwhile, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev called Trump’s remarks a “symbolic warning” with no real weight. “Moscow does not attach importance to what was said yesterday,” Medvedev told Russian media, adding that Trump’s credibility is eroded by repeated reversals.
Trump had stated on Monday that he once believed reaching a deal with Putin would be easy, but has since concluded that only raising the cost of war will force Moscow to compromise. The White House now conditions further talks on concrete proposals from Ukraine.
Global Reactions And Military Developments
In a recent interview with the BBC, Trump said he is “disappointed” but not “done” with Putin. He reiterated his intention to arm Ukraine with advanced systems like Patriot missiles through NATO, while threatening harsh tariffs on Russia and its trading partners if no deal is reached within 50 days.
China responded critically, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian saying that “coercion and pressure solve nothing” and reiterating China’s opposition to unilateral sanctions.
The EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, however, revealed that the bloc is close to finalizing a new package of sanctions against Russia, which may be adopted within days at the Brussels foreign ministers' meeting.
Meanwhile, Russia reported it had downed 55 Ukrainian drones overnight in regions such as Lipetsk and Voronezh. Ukraine's general staff claimed Russian military losses have exceeded one million personnel since the start of the war, though the figures could not be independently verified.
