According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the chargé d'affaires of Poland was summoned on July 11 and handed a formal diplomatic note. The statement specified that Russia is withdrawing its consent for the functioning of the Polish Consulate General in Kaliningrad, effective from August 29.
The ministry said the decision was taken “in response to the withdrawal by the Polish authorities from June 30, 2025, of consent to the functioning of the Consulate General of Russia in Krakow.” The Russian side characterized the Polish move as “unjustified and hostile.”
The closure follows a chain of escalating tit-for-tat diplomatic actions between the two countries, and it eliminates consular services for Polish citizens in Russia’s westernmost region.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has not specified whether further retaliatory steps are under consideration but emphasized that the current decision is final and stems from bilateral diplomatic parity.
