According to the Emergency Lawyers Association, dozens of civilians were wounded, and the number of arrests remains unknown. RSF field commanders claimed that the victims were combatants attempting to flee the frontlines, though independent groups report that most of the dead were unarmed. Video footage released by RSF showed a man they identified as a brigadier general taken captive near the city’s outskirts.
This attack is part of a broader surge in violence that has affected civilians across Darfur. In previous weeks, displaced persons attempting to reach the town of Tawila from Zamzam camp were reportedly subjected to killings, looting, and sexual violence by RSF fighters.
Civilians Demand Protection As Fighting Worsens
The Sudanese military, which has regained control of Gezira, Khartoum, and parts of White Nile states earlier this year, continues to battle RSF elements pushed back into Darfur and Kordofan. The El Fasher region remains a key battleground as both sides vie for control in the west.
Amid the fighting, humanitarian groups and Sudanese activists have launched the “Save El Fasher” campaign, calling for urgent aid and a humanitarian corridor into the besieged city. Reports from the area also indicate the emergence of cholera due to deteriorating sanitation and medicine shortages.
