The Ministry of Defence announced Key’s dismissal on Wednesday, highlighting that his actions during the spring of the previous year did not meet the values and standards expected from senior personnel. “This has resulted in termination of service and his commission,” said the MoD in a formal statement.

Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Sir Tony Radakin emphasised the seriousness of the decision, stating, “We expect the highest standards of behaviour from our service personnel and our civil servants. We investigate all allegations of inappropriate behaviour and will take robust action.”

Key Expresses Regret

In a public statement, Sir Ben Key acknowledged his misconduct and expressed remorse. “I deeply regret my conduct in the spring of last year, which fell well below the standard I set for myself and that which I set for the Royal Navy. I fully accept the decision of the Defence Council,” he said, adding, “I am very sorry to those I have hurt personally, and I apologise to everyone who serves with the Royal Navy.”
