Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Tehran has given Washington a “firm and rational response.” “Now the ball is in America’s court to prevent war,” he said on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Anadolu reported.
Qalibaf, who also leads Iran’s negotiating team, warned of “a new battlefield” if the US makes another strategic mistake. He did not say what the response contained.
What Qalibaf Said
The remarks came in a televised speech tied to a parliamentary session. Iran is ready “with its finger on the trigger,” he said, but has given a “powerful and rational response,” Al Arabiya reported.
If Washington errs again, “it will face a new battlefield,” he warned, and grow “even more desperate,” Anadolu reported. Our wording follows the Anadolu translation, which differs slightly from social media versions.
He said Iran’s armed forces are at their highest defensive readiness and will not surrender to threats. Any response to a renewed attack would not be limited by geography, he added.
What the Response Refers To
Qalibaf did not name the channel or the content. Iran is exchanging messages with Washington through Qatar and Pakistan, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Monday, Arab News reported.
Qatari mediators traveled to Tehran on Monday night to discuss a draft US-Iran deal, an official told Reuters. We covered that trip.
Iran’s foreign ministry says its condensed seven-step plan could be implemented in two days, Reuters reported. Tehran links any Hormuz reopening to an end of the US naval blockade.
Washington’s Mixed Signals
Trump wrote Monday that a deal “could happen” and that Iran wants a settlement “as soon as possible.” Vice President JD Vance said “we’ve certainly made some progress,” Arab News reported.
Yet US forces carried out limited strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island on Monday, which officials called defensive. Trump said the US could hit Pickaxe Mountain “in one hour,” as we covered.
Trump also said Iran asked the US to stop killing its leaders, we reported. US midterm elections are being held today.
