Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to address what he called “common threats,” as tensions escalate following Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iranian territory.
Speaking to Iranian state media IRNA upon arrival in Moscow, Araghchi emphasized shared geopolitical interests with Russia: “Iran and Russia always have common concerns and common enemies. We work closely together to confront the challenges and threats that we face, now more than ever.”
While he did not name specific adversaries, the timing strongly suggests a coordinated response to recent Western military actions in the region.
Russian state agency TASS confirmed that Putin will meet Araghchi on Monday, citing Kremlin adviser Yury Ushakov. The meeting follows Russia’s sharp condemnation of U.S. strikes, which it called a violation of international norms and a threat to regional stability.
Both sides are expected to discuss military, nuclear, and diplomatic responses, including potential realignments in air defense, arms support, and regional deterrence.
