Poland Secretly Sent Patriot Missiles to Ukraine While Rejecting US Requests

Poland secretly transferred U.S.-made Patriot interceptors to Ukraine in spring 2026 and yielded its production queue slots to Kyiv, according to the Sejm deputy speaker, despite publicly refusing urgent American resupply requests during the conflict with Iran.

Poland secretly transferred U.S.-made Patriot air defense interceptors to Ukraine in the spring of 2026, according to the deputy speaker of the Polish parliament, despite Warsaw publicly rejecting Washington's urgent requests to replenish American stockpiles.

Krzysztof Bosak, the deputy speaker of the Sejm, stated that the Polish government covertly delivered the long-range surface-to-air missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in March.

The transfer involved munitions originally acquired from the U.S. to build Poland's multi-layered air defense network, which remains incomplete.

Marcin Przydacz, the head of the International Policy Bureau of the presidential chancellery, confirmed that the covert spring transfer was highly probable.

Przydacz added that Warsaw also surrendered its priority position in the American manufacturing queue to Kyiv, delaying deliveries intended for Polish forces.

Rejecting Washington

The secret allocation of interceptors to Ukraine occurred simultaneously with Poland’s refusal to assist its primary strategic partner.

In March 2026, the U.S. requested interceptor supplies to replenish inventories heavily depleted after the U.S. Army expended more than 800 anti-ballistic missiles over five days of combat against Iranian forces.

Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz publicly denied the American request at the time, declaring that Poland's Patriot batteries were strictly reserved for protecting domestic airspace and NATO's eastern flank.

Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the U.S. had already mobilized half of the alliance's total air defense capacity for its own operations.

Air Defense Degradation

The covert transfer has drawn domestic criticism because the Patriot missiles represent Poland's primary defense against Russian Iskander ballistic missiles deployed in the neighboring Kaliningrad exclave.

Warsaw’s reliance on the U.S.-made system intensified after it donated its entire operational inventory of Soviet-era S-200 and S-125 air defense systems to Kyiv.

The defense ministry has refused to provide official clarity on the matter. Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated that the list of military aid provided to Ukraine remains classified.

Rising Bilateral Tensions

The prioritization of Ukraine's air defense needs over Poland's own security comes despite growing political friction between Warsaw and Kyiv.

Relations have deteriorated due to historical disagreements, agricultural import disputes, and friction in defense cooperation.

Recently, Polish President Karol Nawrocki revoked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's highest Polish state honor amid a row over a Ukrainian military unit named after historical UPA figures.

Furthermore, Kosiniak-Kamysz revealed that Ukraine canceled an agreement to receive Polish MiG-29 fighter jets and refused to share drone technology with Warsaw.
