Somalia’s intelligence agency and army, supported by international allies, have killed more than 40 al-Shabaab fighters in a precision operation in Hiiraan’s El-Hareeri area, dealing a blow to the group’s command structure.

Among those killed were Abuu Anas, the logistics chief for al-Shabaab’s combat units, and Mohamed Ahmed (known as Xerow), a prominent field commander. The raid also critically wounded key figures including Nuur Cabdi Rooble (Nuunuule), who oversaw operations across four regions, and Commander Jeylaani, in charge of frontline planning.

“These individuals were believed to be the masterminds behind recent suicide attacks,” Somali authorities stated.

Vehicles and Infrastructure Destroyed

The joint force, led by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and Somali National Army (SNA), struck a site used for concealment and logistics. Multiple vehicles used for supply and assault missions were destroyed during the operation.

Government Pledges Ongoing Offensives

The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating al-Shabaab and protecting its citizens. “We will continue to defend our sovereignty and the true values of Islam against extremist distortions,” the statement read.

The strike marks one of the most significant recent blows to al-Shabaab’s leadership in central Somalia.
