North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the sea off its eastern coast on Wednesday, November 4, according to South Korea's Defence Ministry, marking another weapons launch amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean authorities did not immediately identify the projectile or provide details about its flight distance, launch location or whether it landed in the sea.

The launch follows a series of North Korean weapons tests in recent weeks, including the firing of approximately a dozen short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea on October 29.

It also came hours after Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, rejected the prospect of renewed dialogue with Washington unless the United States abandons what Pyongyang describes as its hostile policy.

Tensions between North and South Korea have intensified following a September border incident in which three South Korean soldiers were injured by land mines.

Seoul has accused Pyongyang of responsibility for the explosions, while North Korea has denied the allegations.

Pyongyang has also continued expanding its military capabilities, including missile systems, attack drones and naval platforms.

The latest launch adds to concerns over security on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea maintains its weapons development programs and rejects calls for renewed diplomatic engagement.
