Netanyahu Unveils New Gaza Plan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a new plan for Gaza, described as a significant shift in Israeli strategy, during a cabinet meeting on Monday. While the proposal allows a short diplomatic window for Hamas to accept a previously offered deal, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel will not wait indefinitely. If no progress is made, he said, Israel will proceed with independent measures in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu’s New Approach

During a meeting of the ministerial forum, Netanyahu outlined what he called a "change in the Israeli approach." According to sources cited by Maariv newspaper, the new plan provides a narrow timeframe for Hamas to respond positively to a proposal made roughly two weeks ago, involving potential agreements on prisoners and ceasefire conditions.

Netanyahu underlined that while mediators have another chance to secure an agreement, Israel will not tolerate stalling. “A specific period of time will be given to the other party to submit a positive response,” he said. “Otherwise, we will take our own steps.”

Shift from Pressure to Imposed Reality

The plan reportedly includes the establishment of a civilian and security administration for Gaza, should Hamas fail to comply. This marks a departure from the previous strategy of exerting pressure for a negotiated settlement. Israeli leadership sees this as an opportunity to reshape the situation on the ground.

Despite the warnings, Israeli officials believe that progress on both prisoner swaps and a ceasefire is still possible if Hamas demonstrates flexibility. Netanyahu’s announcement comes amid growing international concern and renewed calls, including from France, for Israel to commit to a two-state solution.
