The Tesla and SpaceX CEO denounced Trump’s 940-page “Big Beautiful Bill” for its tax breaks and severe cuts to healthcare and food programs. Calling it “a disgusting abomination,” Musk warned lawmakers who supported the bill to “hang their heads in shame” and vowed to oppose them in future elections.

He declared on X, “Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people,” referring to Republicans as the “Porky Pig Party.”

Trump Hits Back With Subsidy Threat

Trump responded swiftly, suggesting that Musk’s government subsidies—through programs once overseen by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk previously led—should be reviewed. “Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back to South Africa,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

In response, Musk shot back: “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now.”

A Public Feud With Political Stakes

The once-close allies have clashed multiple times in recent weeks. Although they briefly reconciled after Musk expressed regret for personal attacks, their relationship has deteriorated again as the bill nears a Senate vote.

Observers warn the feud could fracture Republican unity ahead of the 2026 midterms. “Republicans are very worried about how much debt it’s creating. Democrats are worried about safety net cuts,” said Bill Schneider of George Mason University, who doubts Musk’s ability to form a viable third party.
