Israeli Arab lawmaker Ayman Odeh has accused the entire Israeli political establishment of conspiring to expel him from the Knesset after his post calling for the release of Palestinian prisoners. As the parliament prepares to vote on his dismissal, Odeh denounced the move as a coordinated effort to silence voices opposing the Israeli government’s policies on Gaza and Palestinians.
Odeh faces expulsion over a post he made on Platform X, which called for freedom for Palestinians and prisoners. Haaretz newspaper condemned the proceedings as a shameful political move that undermines Israel’s democracy. The paper warned that dismissing Odeh with decisive votes from Jewish members signals a troubling erosion of democratic standards.
Benny Begin, a former minister, labeled the action illegal, arguing there’s no legal justification for removing Odeh. Haaretz highlighted this as an attempt to set a precedent for future political purges against left-wing figures.
In a fierce critique, Odeh accused Israel’s government, opposition leaders like Yair Lapid, settler leaders, and the media of fueling a campaign to erase him and others who reject occupation policies. He said Israel’s establishment has exploited narratives of security and extremism to brand dissent as support for terrorism.
Odeh also lashed out at international actors, including U.S. President Donald Trump and his predecessors, accusing them of enabling Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza and the rise of fascist politics within Israel.
Despite the threats, Odeh pledged to defend his principles in the Knesset, refusing to retract a single word. “Not one sentence, not one word, not one letter, not even a comma,” he declared, vowing to face any questioning with his head held high.
