Democratic Sen. Mark Warner has won reelection to a fourth term in Virginia, according to race calls on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. The Associated Press, NBC News and Decision Desk HQ all projected his victory.
The call came as polls closed at 7 p.m. ET. It was the first Senate race called on election night.
Warner Defeats Mizusawa
Warner, a former Virginia governor, beat Republican Bert Mizusawa, a retired Army major general. Mizusawa had never sought elective office.
Warner was first elected in 2008 and has said this would be his last term. He is vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Analysts had rated the race safe for Democrats. No vote totals had been reported when the networks made the call.
Warner far outraised Mizusawa, who did not receive help from national Republican groups. Virginia has drifted blue since 2014, when Warner nearly lost.
Control of Congress at Stake
Republicans hold a 53-seat majority in the Senate going into the vote. Democrats are trying to cut into it. Results are updating on the midterms live page.
Trump has told CBS he will use his veto and “tremendous powers” if Democrats win control of Congress.
