An intensive Israeli bombardment and ground assault on Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood has left over 300 homes reduced to rubble in just three days, according to Palestinian Civil Defense officials. The strikes, which began Tuesday, have involved high-explosive munitions aimed at causing maximum destruction. Witnesses and officials say several multi-storey residential buildings were targeted, forcing mass displacement and killing entire families.

The operation comes after Israel’s security cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to seize control of the whole of Gaza City. The strategy reportedly aims to push civilians southward, encircle the city, and launch incursions into remaining population centres. According to Gaza health authorities, 100 Palestinians have been killed since Wednesday morning, including 38 people who were receiving aid at the time of the strikes.

Palestinian officials accuse Israel of committing massacres and using the offensive to further its broader reoccupation plans. The International Court of Justice has previously ordered Israel to halt military operations in Gaza, where the war since October 7, 2023, has killed tens of thousands, injured over 154,000—mostly women and children—and caused famine that has claimed at least 235 lives.
