Al-Manar reported that the Israeli drone targeted a vehicle on the Saida-Tyre road. Local media confirmed the identity of the deceased and reported heightened drone activity across southern Lebanon. Earlier Israeli strikes in Baalbek and areas near the Syrian border caused casualties, including among Syrian nationals.
These developments occurred shortly after Lebanon’s cabinet endorsed the framework of a U.S. proposal to centralize arms under state control. The Lebanese Army is expected to submit an implementation plan before the end of the year.
In response, Hezbollah issued a statement rejecting the disarmament plan, calling it a breach of Lebanon’s National Pact and prior commitments by President Joseph Aoun. The group stated that its weapons are necessary for defending Lebanese territory, citing continued Israeli presence in disputed southern areas.
Since the November 27, 2024 ceasefire agreement, local sources report that at least 230 Lebanese civilians have died due to Israeli military operations. Hezbollah maintains it will oppose any measure it sees as weakening its role in confronting external threats.
