Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip has killed at least 95 people within the last 24 hours, with the overall Palestinian death toll now surpassing 58,000 since the war began in October 2023. Attacks struck civilian areas including a busy market and a water collection point, as the humanitarian crisis worsens under continued siege and bombardment.
Civilian Casualties Mount in Latest Israeli Strikes
Israeli forces struck Gaza City’s main market on Sunday, killing at least 17 people including prominent doctor Ahmed Qandil, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. In the Nuseirat refugee camp, an Israeli missile attack hit a water collection site, killing 10 civilians, seven of whom were children fetching water. Medical sources reported dozens more wounded in the attacks.
The Israeli military claimed the Nuseirat strike targeted a Palestinian fighter and blamed a technical failure for civilian deaths — a claim that remains unverified. International legal experts have increasingly questioned Israel’s adherence to civilian protection protocols.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Amid Fuel Shortages
Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported on Sunday that more than 58,000 Palestinians have been killed, with at least 138,500 wounded since October 7, 2023. UN agencies warn that Israel’s continued blockade on fuel threatens to halt critical services, including hospitals, water supplies, and sanitation. UNICEF described the situation as a “child survival emergency,” with thousands of children suffering from severe malnutrition.
Aid workers report that hunger and lack of medical care are contributing to rising death tolls, with the UN refugee agency UNRWA confirming further infant deaths due to starvation. Fuel shortages now risk shutting down remaining humanitarian operations entirely.
Ceasefire Talks Remain Stalled
Efforts to reach a ceasefire remain bogged down in Doha, with US President Donald Trump expressing hope but little concrete progress. Talks are hindered by Israel’s refusal to commit to key Palestinian demands, including withdrawal from Gaza and safe aid distribution.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s deputy leader accused Israel of using humanitarian aid as cover for forced displacement strategies in Rafah. Meanwhile, political turmoil in Israel deepened after allegations surfaced that a Netanyahu adviser leaked classified military information to foreign media.
