Israeli Air Strikes Hit Syria’s Homs and Latakia

Syria has condemned a new round of Israeli air strikes that hit areas around the central city of Homs and the coastal city of Latakia in the early hours of Tuesday, calling the raids a “blatant violation” of national sovereignty and a “direct threat” to security as Damascus pressed the UN Security Council to intervene.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks unfolded before dawn and targeted multiple sites around both cities. A local war-monitor reported strikes on a Syrian air force base near Homs and a military barracks near Latakia, with residents hearing explosions and ambulances rushing to the scenes; there were no immediate official casualty figures. The raids followed similar operations in recent months that have focused on military infrastructure along Syria’s coastline and central corridor.

Damascus Appeals to UN, Cites International Law

The ministry said the strikes “blatantly” violated the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and urged a “clear and firm” response from the UN Security Council. Officials framed the attacks as part of a pattern of escalations that undermine regional stability and contravene the UN Charter. The government reiterated it rejects any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or harm national security.

The raids come amid a months-long uptick in hostilities that has included reported Israeli actions across multiple Syrian provinces. Late last month, state media said six Syrian soldiers were killed in drone strikes south of Damascus; separate reports in recent weeks also described limited ground incursions in the south as tensions simmered along the frontier.
