The Israeli government stressed that the aid effort was purely humanitarian but underscored its commitment to supporting the Druze minority, a community with close ties to Druze citizens in Israel. “We are acting to protect the Druze population in the area from any attack,” the foreign ministry said.
The gesture also reflects mounting domestic pressure from Israel’s Druze community, which has demanded government action to protect their kin across the border. Israeli politicians from Druze-majority areas have called for both humanitarian and strategic support to prevent further bloodshed in Sweida.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Interior Ministry denied reports that it was preparing to redeploy internal security forces to the area, asserting that its units remained in standard readiness. Local media, however, reported that columns of Syrian forces were massing outside Sweida, raising speculation of a possible intervention.
Situation On The Ground Remains Volatile
According to regional outlets, tribal forces were reported within 3 kilometers of Sweida city, and heavy clashes continued near the village of Al-Mazraa. Residents in the area described the fighting as some of the worst in years, prompting urgent appeals for international assistance.
While Damascus has made no official statement about accepting or rejecting Israeli aid, the ongoing power vacuum in the province—coupled with mounting civilian needs—has fueled speculation about possible shifts in regional dynamics. The situation remains fluid, with no confirmed ceasefire or de-escalation on the horizon.
